The Show & Tale Festival provides opportunities for playwrights, filmmakers, and performance & fine artists from Los Angeles, the United States, and

beyond. Submissions are collected starting August 4, 2025 through February, 10 2026 at 11:59 pm. for short films, short plays and music videos.

 

The Show & Tale festival takes place on in Winter 2026. All submissions will be notified via email by February 5, 2026 if not before.

 

Our Advisory & Selection Committee will read and review each piece weekly, narrowing down the number of scripts to a nice selection of plays and films to be

viewed and screened at our festival.

 

Our Artistic Board will curate the programming blocks. All casts and directors of plays must be presented in advance and pre-approved by our Artistic Board. Please include cast and director names with your submission.

 

Art, Poetry and Fashion Show submissions are curated. Any sales from Art Exhibit and Fashion Show are subject to 20% commission fee.

 

Submission Guidelines

Short films should be new works not previously screened at The Show & Tale Festival unless it was a teaser, or a trailer. Submissions must be in English, and all films and music videos must include English subtitles (unless spoken language is English and/or if film has a heavy English & strong accent and dialect which may be difficult to understand).
 

Short films may be up to 1-20 minutes.
Music videos should be no more than 5 minutes.
 

New plays, or works without previous productions are highly encouraged.
Playwrights may only submit one to two plays to the Festival each year.

Plays must not have played at 2 or more play festivals withing a 6 month period prior to The Show & Tale and must not have had a perfomance run of 12 shows or more.
Plays must be 10-11 pages in length or less, written in a standard playwriting format. Plays that exceed 11 pages will not be selected.
Plays should not use excessive profane or vulgar language. Submissions will be judged based on suitability for our audience.
Plays should include roles for no more than 4 actors. Doubling is permitted.
Please include a Title Page with your full contact information, dramatis personae, and a brief synopsis of the play.
Please include page numbers.
Name of director and cast should be included with submission.
Plays must be submitted by the writer and/or director .
All plays are self-produced and directed.
All theater actors should be Non-Equity unless a special waiver from the union is obtained.

 

By submitting, playwrights, filmmakers, and all artists agree to grant permission to The Show & Tale Festival to include the play, film, poetry, music or artwork as part of the Festival and grants us permission to promote, showcase, and include official selections on all our social media platforms and on our website.
 

Submission fee is $20 for each submission.
 

*All submission fees are non-refundable and go towards the administration and production of our event and platform.

All submissions are reviewed by our Executive, Advisory & Selection Committee, an esteemed guest of peers, artists & storytellers.
